Two people die after single-vehicle van crash on Glenariffe Road

Two people have died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in the Glenariffe area on Saturday evening.

The victims, a 41-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene after the crash involving a silver Ford Transit Custom on the Glenariffe Road.

Emergency services attended

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said officers were called to the collision shortly before 9.10pm on Saturday, 18 July. Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also attended.

Detective Inspector Stewart, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“Police received a report shortly before 9.10pm of a collision involving a silver Ford Transit Custom van in the Glenariffe Road area.

“Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended.

“The occupants of the van, a 41-year-old man, and 31-year-old woman, were both sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Appeal for witnesses

The Glenariffe Road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and carried out initial investigations, but has since fully reopened.

Detective Inspector Stewart added:

“Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have any information which could assist with our investigation, including dash-cam or other footage, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1423 18/07/26.”

The identities of those who died have not yet been released, and police investigations into the circumstances of the collision remain ongoing.
