Two men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following serious assault with machete

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland are appealing for information following a serious assault in Newcastle on the afternoon of Saturday 21st June.


The incident occurred at approximately 12.30pm in the Tipperary Lane area of the town, where a man was violently attacked by two others in what police describe as a “serious assault”.



Detective Inspector Ryan confirmed:


“At approximately 12.30pm, police received a report that a man had been attacked by two other men in the Tipperary Lane area of the town.


“The victim had sustained serious injuries to his face, hands and legs after being assaulted with what is believed to have been a machete,” added Detective Inspector Ryan.



The suspects fled the scene following the incident but were subsequently apprehended by officers in the nearby Bunkers Hill area.


Two men, aged 30 and 60, were arrested on suspicion of several offences including attempted murder. Both remain in police custody as investigations continue.



Detectives are now urging anyone with information that could assist their enquiries to come forward.


“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or to anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 754 21/06/25.”
