Three arrested after viable device discovered in Glenarm security alert

Three people have been arrested after a viable device was discovered in Glenarm, prompting a major police response and a controlled explosion on Monday morning.
The security alert unfolded in the Feystown Road area shortly after 10am on Monday 6 April, when police received a report of a suspicious device.
Specialist officers, including Ammunition Technical Officers, were deployed to the scene where the item was examined and later destroyed in a controlled explosion.
Police have since confirmed that the object was a viable device.
Two men remain in custody
Detective Inspector Lenaghan said:
“Shortly after 10am, police received a report of a suspicious device in the in the Feystown Road area.
“Ammunition Technical Officers attended and carried out a controlled explosion on the item, which has been deemed as a viable device.
“Three people were arrested at the scene, two men, aged 43 and 47 were arrested on suspicion of doing an act with intent to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property and obstructing police. Both men remain in police custody at this time.
“A woman in her 70s was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police, she has since been released to be reported to the Public Prosecution Service.”
The two men, aged 43 and 47, continue to be questioned by detectives.
The woman, aged in her 70s, has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
Appeal for witnesses and footage
Detectives have launched ongoing enquiries and are now appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area in the early hours of Monday morning to come forward.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Feystown Road area between 4am and 5am.
Detective Inspector Lenaghan added:
“Enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the Feystown Road between 4am and 5am on Monday 6th April and witnessed anyone suspicious or to anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with the investigation, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 401 06/04/26.”
