Marking 14 years since the attack on Massereene Barracks where Sappers Patrick Azimakar and Mark Quinsey tragically lost their lives, a Service of Remembrance was held today in Market Square, Antrim.


Paying their respects, the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Leah Smyth, joined representatives from The Royal Engineers Association, The Royal British Legion, Antrim and The Royal British Legion Motor Bike Section NI to lay wreaths at the dedicated memorial.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross commented:


“On 7 March 2009, Sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey, both from 25 Field Squadron, 38 Engineer Regiment, were killed in a catastrophic attack at Massereene Barracks in Antrim.


"My thoughts are with the families of both Sapper Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey, fourteen years on from this tragic event took place. We Will Remember Them.”
