Police issue warning over public use
Police have reminded people that e-scooters cannot legally be used on public roads or footpaths and may only be ridden on private land with the landowner’s permission.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Ballymena Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“Ballymena Neighbourhood Policing Team followed up on concerns raised regarding the use of E-Scooters and Scramblers this weekend.
“As a result five E-Scooters were seized along with a Scrambler, with the riders cautioned for several offences including no insurance.”

Officers urged people considering buying an e-scooter or scrambler to understand the restrictions governing where and how they can be used.
Police added:
“E-Scooters can only be used on private land with the landowners’ permission. They are prohibited from being used on public roads or footpaths.
“Please be mindful and aware of the law regarding both E-Scooters and Scramblers before deciding to purchase and use in public.”
The weekend seizures underline the potential consequences for anyone using an e-scooter or scrambler illegally in public, with police asking riders and those considering buying one to familiarise themselves with the law before taking to the road or footpath.
