Police make appeal after woman reportedly assaulted and forced into car in Portglenone

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman was reportedly assaulted and forced into a vehicle in a disturbing incident in Portglenone on Saturday night.


Police say the incident happened on Main Street at around 10pm on Saturday, 14 March, when a member of the public reported seeing a male assault a female.



According to officers, the woman was punched to the head and face before being forced into a black Nissan Qashqai.


A 42-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including false imprisonment, common assault and taking a motor vehicle without authority.


He remains in police custody.



Appeal for witnesses and footage


Detectives are now asking anyone who may have seen what happened, or who tried to intervene, to come forward.


Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dashcam or other video footage from the area at the time.


Officers have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting reference 2 15/03/26.
