Police are calling on parents and guardians to take greater responsibility following a surge in antisocial behaviour involving young people in the Ahoghill and Galgorm areas over the past two weeks.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that multiple incidents are under investigation, including assaults and criminal damage, all involving individuals under the age of 18.
“There has been a rise in general anti-social behaviour reported from certain locations in these areas,” a police spokesperson said. “Concerns have been raised by both elected representatives and members of the public.”
The PSNI warned that such behaviour is “unacceptable”, and issued a direct appeal to parents:
“If you are a parent or guardian we would ask you to be aware of where your child is at all times and for respect to be shown to persons and property.”
Community Leaders Speak Out

Bannside TUV Alderman Stewart McDonald
One of the most vocal responses came from TUV Alderman Stewart McDonald, who condemned the recent spate of vandalism in Ahoghill.
“I am appalled by the vandalism which has been perpetrated in Ahoghill over the past fortnight. Mindless vandals have destroyed young trees, plants and fencing,” said Alderman McDonald.
“Such behaviour has no place in Ahoghill and has disgusted the good people of the village. I would appeal for anyone with insight into who is responsible for this to come forward to police.”
Local residents have echoed these sentiments, express frustration, fear, and disappointment at the damage to public property and the disruption of community life.
Rising Concern Over Youth Behaviour
The recent reports from Ahoghill and Galgorm have triggered particular alarm due to their frequency and severity.
Police have not released specific figures, but confirmed they are investigating a number of incidents ranging from property damage to physical assaults.
In response, an increased police presence is expected in the affected areas as officers work to identify those involved and prevent further disruption.
