One person dies after two-vehicle crash on Omagh road

A person has died following a serious two-vehicle collision in County Tyrone on Sunday morning, prompting a police investigation and renewed appeals for witnesses and dash-cam footage.
Emergency services were called to the Clanabogan Road area of Omagh at around 9.10am on Sunday, 17th May, after reports of a crash involving a Volvo and a Mazda.
Police confirmed that despite the efforts of emergency responders, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal collision led to the closure of the Clanabogan Road for a period on Sunday as officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene.
The road has since reopened, however enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash remain ongoing.
Police investigation underway following fatal collision
Detective Inspector Dave Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit said officers are continuing to appeal for information from anyone who may have witnessed what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.
He said:
“Police received a report at around 9.10am of a collision involving a Volvo and a Mazda in the Clanabogan Road area.
“Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended, however, sadly one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The Clanabogan Road, which was closed for a time, has since reopened.
“Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have any information which could assist with our investigation – including dash-cam or other footage – contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 466 of 17/05/26.”

Police are urging motorists who were travelling in the area on Sunday morning to review any recorded footage which could help investigators establish exactly what happened.
