Off-duty police officer charged after incident at hotel in Ballymena

A serving PSNI officer has been arrested and charged after an incident at a hotel in Ballymena.


It is understood the male officer was attending a wedding function with other police colleagues on Thursday evening, 21 September.



Today, Saturday 23 September, police have confirmed the officer has been charged to court.


The 30-year-old man has been charged with driving with excess alcohol in breath, four counts of common assault, and disorderly behaviour.


He is due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 19th October.



As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.


The PSNI have also confirmed that a Professional Standards Department misconduct investigation is now ongoing.
