Education Authority urges parents to have “alternative transport arrangements”

The Education Authority (EA) in Northern Ireland has today (Monday 3 January) urged parents to have “alternative transport arrangements” in place, as workforce disruption due to Covid-19 could impact services at very short notice.

Rising rates of infection by the virus in recent days with the Omicron variant rapidly increasing, has proven a challenge for many organisations and businesses due to staff having to self-isolate.

Last week the UK Government‘s Health Security Agency advised that the self-isolation period could be reduced from 10 to 7 days, if certain conditions were met, in a bid to limit the disruption across the country as infection rates continue to soar.

A spokesperson for the EA Transport Team commented:

“Our drivers and escorts are looking forward to being back on the road on Tuesday 4

January.

“Current high transmission rates of Covid-19 may have an impact on our workforce and could lead to disruption of school transport services in coming days.

“We will do our best to communicate service changes via our website www.eani.org.uk/news/transport-updates - however, as some of the disruption may occur at very short notice, we would recommend parents also have alternative transport arrangements in place.

“Thank you for your continued understanding and co-operation, it is very much appreciated.”
