Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) MP Jim Allister and MLA Timothy Gaston welcomed to Moore Concrete, Ballymena, by founder and director Wilbert Moore

Moore Concrete in Ballymena has been hailed as a “major success story in Mid Antrim” by TUV representatives following a recent visit to the family-owned business.

Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) MP Jim Allister and MLA Timothy Gaston toured the Woodside Road factory to meet with management and staff, reflecting on the company’s impressive growth and its contribution to the local economy.

Founded by Wilbert Moore with an initial focus on agricultural products, Moore Concrete has diversified significantly in recent years.

Today, 50% of its output serves civil engineering projects, while agriculture continues to account for 40% of production. The company now employs more than 200 people, making it a cornerstone employer in the region.

Speaking after the visit, North Antrim MP Jim Allister praised the firm’s innovation and resilience:

“Seeing the growth and success of manufacturing industry in North Antrim is most satisfying. Moore Concrete epitomises what hard work and entrepreneurial vision can achieve.

“The Moore family has built this business into the go-to supply source not just for agriculture in NI, but increasingly for major civil engineering projects across the UK.

“To see products made in Ballymena but destined for the HS2 project in GB was a highlight of this visit. It was also good to get acquainted with the challenges faced day to day, which includes the unnecessary checks, bureaucracy and frustrations of the iniquitous Protocol.”

TUV MLA Timothy Gaston, who previously worked at Moore Concrete during a placement year from the Northern Regional College, also praised the company’s achievements:

“Having spent several happy months working in this plant on my placement year from the NRC, it was a particular pleasure to see the growth in recent years and to meet again with the dedicated staff who make this business such a success.

“Moore Concrete prides itself in producing quality products and investing in its staff, the family ethos I experienced when on placement still guides this remarkable business as it continues to grow.

“The good quality jobs which Moore Concrete brings to Ballymena is a key component of the economic success of our local economy.

“The Woodside Road business is a fantastic credit to the Moore family, who have established the Moore Concrete as a leader in its sector throughout the UK.”

The visit underlined Moore Concrete’s dual importance to both the agricultural and civil engineering sectors, while also highlighting its role as a leading employer committed to investment, quality and innovation.
