Mid Ulster car cruise event in memory of Ryan Speirs

A fundraising event in aid of charity Air Ambulance NI is taking place on 13th August 2023, the first anniversary of a tragic accident when Ryan Speirs sadly lost his life.

Ryan, from Magherafelt, was just 24 when he died following a scrambler bike accident. The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) was tasked to Ryan and he was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

The event is being organised by Ryan’s Godmother, Jolene Neeson, who said:

“Ryan was taken from us all way to soon and our family is beyond broken hearted, there is just no words to express how much he is missed by everyone who loved him, had the pleasure to have known him or met him.

"My goal is to raise as much money as possible for The Air Ambulance NI whilst keeping Ryan’s memory alive.

"The car cruise will be led by Ryan’s beloved car itself, which he cleaned, shined and slicked on a daily basis.

“All donations are greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small for this fantastic charity who attended the scene of Ryan’s accident.”

The car cruise will go from Drummullan at 1.30pm from St Malachy's & St Joseph's Chapel Car-Park, Moneyhaw Road, Drummullan in Magherafelt.

Those interested can simply turn up on the day and pay on admission (all money will go directly to Air Ambulance NI). You can also follow 'Car Cruise in Memory of Ryan Speirs' Facebook page for updates and information.

Kerry Anderson, Head of Fundraising commented:

“Our thoughts are with Ryan’s family, friends and loved ones as they approach the first anniversary of his death. We realise this will be a very difficult time for them and we are humbled that they have decided to organise this event to help others.

"We thank all those who are helping in any way and for supporting this event. The funds will go to powering the aircraft to lift off to a critically ill or injured patient. It could be as a result of a road traffic accident, farm, sporting, workplace incident or serious medical emergency. Once at scene, the doctor and paramedic can provide interventions that can be the difference between life and death.”

The charity Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for Northern Ireland. The service brings urgent medical assistance to anywhere in the province, operating seven days a week for 12 hours per day. The HEMS team attend patients who are seriously ill or injured, bringing emergency pre-hospital care direct to the casualty with the aim of saving lives, brains and limbs. The aircraft can reach anywhere in Northern Ireland in approximately twenty-five minutes.

On average the medical team are called upon twice every day. Any patients or families are welcome to visit the airbase and should get in touch with Air Ambulance NI.

As a local charity, Air Ambulance NI aspires to raise £2.5million each year to maintain and sustain this service so public donations are crucial. One of the simplest ways to support is by becoming a member of Club AANI and donating via a monthly or annual subscription.
