Elected members have paid tribute and passed on their well wishes to Councillor Muriel Burnside who is due to step down from her role on Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

Cllr Burnside will be officially vacating her seat 16th October and will be replaced by Alliance Party colleague Mr David Reid. Warm praise was heard from across the chamber at the Council meeting on Monday evening from all parties for the Braid councillor.

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, led the tributes.

He said: “We may not have known each other for long but I want to take this opportunity to wish Cllr Burnside all the very best in her future endeavours.

“Throughout her time in the chamber she displayed integrity and professionalism and we all appreciate the work she has done to date.

“I speak for everyone to say that we would like to thank for her service on behalf of the people of Mid and East Antrim.” Councillor Burnside thanked all those in the chamber for their kind words with a special mention for her Alliance colleagues.

“I will always appreciate their help and friendship and there are other councillors from other parties who I also count as friends.

“I would also like to thank the Chief Executive and council staff who always dealt with all my questions and queries with great professionalism.

“I thank you all and wish them all the success in their future plans.”
