Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford
The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, has strongly condemned the outbreak of violence that unfolded in Ballymena on Monday evening, describing the scenes as “shocking” and “unacceptable”.
Speaking in the aftermath of the disorder, Councillor Minford issued a firm message denouncing the actions of those involved and reaffirming the community’s support for peace and safety.
“The shocking scenes which played out in Ballymena last night have no place in our community,” the Mayor said.
“The destructiveness and vandalism brought upon our area by a minority of individuals is thoroughly unacceptable and will not be tolerated. What happened is extremely concerning for our residents and communities and I would like to thank the police, emergency services and community partners for their support.”
Emergency services were deployed in response to the unrest, which is understood to have caused damage and alarm across parts of the town. The PSNI and other authorities continue to investigate the incident, with a call for anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“We stand together with those who have been impacted by the violence and I would call for calm going forward,” Councillor Minford continued.
“Anyone with information which could assist the police can contact 101.”
The mayor’s remarks follow widespread concern from local residents and political representatives about rising tensions in the area. Community leaders have echoed calls for calm and cooperation as investigations progress.
The police have appealed for witnesses and have encouraged anyone with video footage or knowledge of those involved to share information through official channels or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
