Man sentenced at Antrim Crown Court after robbery at home of man in his 70’s

A man was handed a six year sentence of three years, three months in custody and three years on license, after he was convicted of robbery and criminal damage.

32-year-old Stephen McCloskey received the jail terms after pleading guilty to robbery and criminal damage at Antrim Crown Court on Thursday January 12th 2023.

The sentencing follows an investigation for offences which occurred in October 2021.

Detective Constable Johnston said:

"The victim, aged in his 70s at the time of the incident, endured a terrifying ordeal. Mr McCloskey entered the victim's property and robbed him of a sum of money.

"A scuffle ensued and the victim was assaulted.

"I hope this sentencing sends out a clear message to anyone who thinks they can get away with this type of crime.

"We will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that the victims receive the justice they deserve. I would ask anyone who believes they are a victim of crime to contact police on the non-emergency number 101."
