The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed that a man has died following a tragic road traffic collision involving two vehicles in the Macosquin area on Wednesday, 4 June.

The incident, which occurred shortly before midday at approximately 11.55am, involved a van and a lorry on the Dunhill Road. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, the van driver was sadly pronounced dead at the location.

He has been named as 44-year-old Ruben Alexandre Guimaraes, who was from the Moy area.

Roads Inspector Cherith Adair from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit issued a statement on the incident. She said:

“Police received a report at approximately 11.55am of a collision involving a van and lorry on the Dunhill Road.

“Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from other emergency services. Sadly, the driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“He was 44-year-old Ruben Alexandre Guimaraes from the Moy area. The driver of the lorry was transported to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be serious at this time.”

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and have appealed to the public for any information that may assist with their enquiries.

Inspector Adair added:

“Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision, and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries.

“Please call us on 101, quoting reference 569 04/06/25, or submit information online at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport.”

The Dunhill Road was closed for a period on Wednesday to allow for investigative work but has since fully reopened to motorists.

This incident adds to the growing concern over road safety across Northern Ireland, and authorities continue to urge all road users to exercise caution and remain vigilant, especially on rural and high-speed roads.
