A 48-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and explosives offences following the attack on Lurgan police station, as detectives continue their investigation into the incident.
The charges come after a series of arrests carried out by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Serious Crime Branch earlier this week in the Lurgan area.
Police confirmed the man has been charged with attempted murder, attempting to cause an explosion, hijacking and possession of explosives with intent to endanger life or damage property.
He is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday 8 May.
Police said that, as is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Teenager released pending PPS report
Detectives also confirmed that a 15-year-old boy arrested on Wednesday 6 May in connection with the investigation has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
The teenager had been detained following coordinated police activity linked to the attack on Lurgan police station, which remains under investigation by the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch.
The incident prompted a major police response and has been treated as a serious attack which investigators believe put lives at risk.
Woman charged with obstructing police
Police have also charged a 39-year-old woman following the investigation.
She has been charged with obstructing police and is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 3 June.
The woman was released unconditionally in relation to separate offences of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender.
As with the other charges in the case, police confirmed the matter will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Investigation remains ongoing
The latest developments mark a significant escalation in the investigation into the attack on Lurgan police station, with detectives continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and any individuals connected to it.
Police investigations of this nature often involve extensive forensic enquiries, intelligence-led operations and ongoing search activity as detectives work to build evidence for prosecution.
The PSNI has not commented further on the circumstances of the attack at this stage, and the investigation remains ongoing.
