Man charged with attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh on 22nd February 2023, have this evening, Friday 9th February, charged a man to court.


The 44-year-old has been charged with attempted murder, directing terrorism and preparation of terrorist acts.



He was arrested in the Dungannon area under the Terrorism Act on Thursday (8th) and was been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.


A property was also searched and a number of items have been taken away for further examination.


He is due to appear before Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning, 10th February.


As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
