Man charged with attempted murder after north Belfast knife attack

A 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious knife attack in north Belfast that left a man in hospital.
Detectives investigating the incident in the Kinnaird Avenue area on Monday night confirmed the suspect has also been charged with possession of an article with blade or point in a public place and threats to kill.
The charges follow a fast-moving police investigation into the attack, which sparked significant concern in the local community amid the seriousness of the victim’s injuries.
The accused is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 June.
Police investigation moved quickly after serious assault
The knife attack happened in the Kinnaird Avenue area of north Belfast on Monday 8 June.
Police had previously confirmed the injured man was taken to hospital following what detectives described as an attempted murder investigation.
On Tuesday evening, detectives confirmed the 30-year-old suspect had now been formally charged with:
• Attempted murder
• Possession of an article with blade or point in a public place
• Threats to kill
As is standard procedure in Northern Ireland, all charges will now be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Court appearance scheduled for Wednesday
The accused man is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 June.
The case is likely to remain under close scrutiny given the severity of the alleged attack and the continuing public concern surrounding violent incidents involving knives in Belfast.
Police enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
