Man charged after serious assault and weapon incident in Ballymena park

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a reported assault in the Dunclug Park area of Ballymena on Monday morning, May 25.


Police confirmed the man has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.



The charges follow what is understood to have been a serious incident in the Dunclug area earlier today, prompting a police investigation.


Court appearance scheduled


The accused is due to appear before Antrim Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, May 26.


As with all criminal cases, the charges will now be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.




Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the assault or the condition of the injured person at this stage.


Investigation remains ongoing


The case is expected to proceed through the courts in the coming days as the investigation continues.
