A 44-year-old man has been charged in connection with a burglary at licensed premises in the Ballyginniff Road area of Aldergrove, near Crumlin.

Police confirmed the charges follow an incident reported in the early hours of Friday, 9 January, when officers were alerted to what was described as an ongoing burglary.

The man has been charged with burglary and going equipped for burglary and is due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 10 January. As is standard procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Detectives have also issued an appeal for witnesses and information, as enquiries continue into the incident.

Detective Sergeant Monaghan, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Organised Crime Unit, said officers received a report shortly after 1am.

“We received a report at around 1.15am of an ongoing burglary in the Ballyginniff Road area of Aldergrove, where a number of males were attempting to break into licensed premises.

“Local officers attended the scene, where they heard banging and smashing coming from inside the building.”

Police said a 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and going equipped for burglary.

Damage was caused inside the premises, including to gaming machines.

Detectives believe the arrested man was not acting alone.

“The man arrested had a number of tools with him and we believe he was accompanied by at least one other male, who made off before our officers arrived.”

Police say investigations are ongoing and are urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with information, including dash-cam, CCTV or other footage, to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 40 of 09/01/26.”
