A glider bus set on fire earlier in June during street disorder In Belfast


A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a series of other serious offences linked to disorder in Belfast earlier this month, as police continue investigations into incidents that shocked communities across the city.


Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that a 29-year-old man was arrested in east Belfast on Monday morning, June 29, as part of ongoing enquiries into sporadic disorder which occurred in June.


The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, arson endangering life with intent and riot.



Police said the arrest relates to an incident in which a Glider vehicle was set on fire and an arson attack was carried out on properties in the McMaster Street area of Belfast on Tuesday evening, June 9.


The incidents formed part of wider unrest in parts of Belfast earlier this month and prompted a significant emergency response.


Investigation into serious public disorder continues


The offences under investigation are among the most serious arising from the disorder, with detectives treating the incidents as posing a direct risk to life.



Police said the suspect remains in custody while enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding what happened.


Investigators are continuing to examine evidence and are appealing for anyone who may be able to assist to come forward.


Police appeal for footage and information


Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the incidents or who may hold footage that could assist investigators to contact police.


This includes CCTV, dashcam footage and mobile phone recordings captured in the area around the time of the incidents.
