A 66-year-old man has been charged to court with a series of serious offences, including attempted murder and terrorism-related charges, following the attack on Dunmurry Police Station.

The development marks a significant escalation in the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit probe into the incident, with the case now progressing through the courts.

The man was arrested under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday, 28 April in the Dunmurry area, as part of coordinated police activity linked to the investigation.

Serious charges spanning explosives and terrorism offences

Detectives have confirmed the accused now faces a number of charges, reflecting the gravity of the incident under investigation.

These include attempted murder, possessing explosives with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury to property, and causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.

He has also been charged with possession of articles for use in terrorism and hijacking by compelling a person to act.

The range of charges indicates that investigators believe the attack involved both a direct threat to life and the use of explosive materials, alongside alleged coercion offences.

Court appearance set for Lisburn

The accused is expected to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 2 May, where the charges will be formally put before the court.

As is standard procedure in such cases, all charges will be subject to review by the Public Prosecution Service.

The move to charge the suspect follows earlier police activity in the Dunmurry area and ongoing investigative work connected to the attack on the police station.

The case now shifts into the judicial process, with further details expected to emerge during court proceedings.
