Man (26) sentenced for spate of robberies in Antrim area


The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has welcomed the sentencing of a man for a number of offences relating to a spate of robberies in the Antrim area in December 2020.


Joseph McDonnell appeared at Antrim Crown Court on Monday 7 February, charged with attempted robbery, robbery, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of a Class B controlled drug, criminal damage and attempted criminal damage.



McDonnell (26) was sentenced to a total of six and a half years, half of which is to be spent in custody and half on licence.


Detective Sergeant Lyttle said:


“We welcome this outcome, and hope that it sends out a very clear message to anyone who thinks they can get away with similar. We will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts.”
