Acclaimed Irish singer and broadcaster Malachi Cush is set to bring the spirit of Christmas to homes across Northern Ireland next week, entertaining listeners on BBC Radio Ulster following more than a dozen sold-out performances throughout the festive season.

Listeners are invited to tune in on Christmas Day at 12noon for Christmas at the Cathedral, recorded in the magnificent surroundings of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh.

The special broadcast will feature much-loved carols, festive sing-along favourites and moments of reflection, offering an uplifting soundtrack as families and friends come together to celebrate the day.

The Christmas Day programme forms part of a full week of festive broadcasting with Malachi on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds, airing daily from 10.30am to 12.30pm:

  • Monday 22 December – Christmas Countdown, with festive music and plenty of craic

  • Tuesday 23 December – Festive Fun, combining seasonal songs with relaxed chat

  • Wednesday 24 December – Santa Ready!, as Malachi builds excitement on Christmas Eve

  • Friday 26 December – A laid-back Boxing Day programme celebrating the best of the festive season

The broadcasts follow a hugely successful run of live concerts, including a sold-out performance in Armagh that proved particularly moving for the singer and his audience.

Reflecting on the season so far, Malachi said:

“My heart is truly filled with the joy of the festive season having entertained thousands of concert goers over this past month.”

He described his concert at St Patrick’s Cathedral as a standout moment, adding:

“My sold out concert in the majestic St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh was incredibly emotive. I had the opportunity to sing so many cherished Christmas classics, and I want to pay tribute to my guests and musicians. It was a wonderfully magical evening.”

A key highlight came when Malachi was joined by St Catherine’s College choir, who accompanied him during a special performance of one of his own compositions:

“One of the highlights was being accompanied by St Catherine’s College choir as they joined me in a heartwarming performance of a song I wrote a couple of years ago, ‘Sleep Oh Infant Child’.”

Looking ahead to the radio programmes, he added:

“I’m now really looking forward to getting into the Christmas spirit with listeners of BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds over Christmas so please join me throughout the week for some festive fun.”

Alongside his festive broadcasts, Malachi is also celebrating the release of his highly anticipated new album, Healing Sounds, now available to download on all major platforms.

The album traces his musical journey to date, weaving together themes of home, faith, family and hope—messages that resonate strongly at Christmas and beyond.

With a carefully curated track list designed to inspire and comfort, Healing Sounds offers listeners a soundtrack not just for the festive season, but for the new year ahead.
