Limits introduced as supermarkets face issues with supply of some fruit and veg

Asda have announced limits on the purchase of some fresh produce in stores across the United Kingdom.

The supermarket chain implemented product limits on a small number of lines yesterday, Monday 20 February, including: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, salad bags, broccoli, cauliflower, and raspberries.

Customers can pick up a maximum of three of each item.

Supermarkets have been facing supply issues in recent weeks stemming from poor yields on the continent and North Africa. Supplies however are expected to improve in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, it is anticipated that other supermarkets will also introduce purchase limits in the short term to ensure all shoppers will continue enjoying access to a full range of fruit and vegetables.

A spokesperson for Asda commented:

“Like other supermarkets, we are experiencing sourcing challenges on some products that are grown in southern Spain and north Africa.

"We have introduced a temporary limit of three of each product on a very small number of fruit and vegetable lines, so customers can pick up the products they are looking for.”
