A new commemorative bench has been placed at the play park in the borough in memory of a very special lady who well-known and much-loved.

June Scott sadly passed away on 15 December 2021 but will always be remembered for her love of Galgorm and the people who call it home. Local residents recall often meeting June at the park and the community centre, and she always had a smile to share and time for a chat with everyone.

Indeed, June is fondly remembered for being at the centre of the community and having the community in her heart. She regularly contacted local councillors when things needed sorted around the area and was a strong advocate for new play park facilities for the children of Galgorm.

Since her passing, June's hopes for a new park were fulfilled last year.

Local TUV councillor, Alderman Stewart McDonald said:

"I am pleased that council have placed a bench in memory of June Scott in the new play park at Galgorm.

"June is very fondly remembered in the local area and rightly so as her love for the community and care for its people shone through over many years.

"As the family continue to grieve their loss I hope this small tribute will serve to remind them that June’s memory and legacy lives on in a community which contains many people whose lives she impacted in a positive fashion".

A spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council commented:

“June Scott was a local resident who campaigned tirelessly for the play park and was passionate about her local community. Unfortunately she didn’t see the play park completed and her family have dedicated this commemorative bench in her memory.”
