Jet2.com, the UK’s third-largest airline, has launched an ambitious new initiative, Jet2FlightPath, designed to transform the aviation industry by offering 60 aspiring pilots the chance to train as commercial pilots at no personal cost.

The multi-million-pound programme eliminates the £100,000-plus financial barrier typically associated with flight training, opening doors for candidates from diverse backgrounds to pursue a career in the cockpit.

The Jet2FlightPath programme, which officially opened for applications on 13th May 2025, is a pioneering step for the award-winning leisure airline, known for its commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

Aspiring pilots can find further details and apply via the dedicated portal.

A Pathway to the Skies

Jet2FlightPath is designed to attract top talent to support Jet2’s ongoing expansion, with the airline set to operate a fleet of up to 135 aircraft in Summer 2025, serving sun and leisure city destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands from 13 UK airport bases.

The programme is open to candidates who meet the entry criteria, requiring a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (including mathematics and a science subject) or equivalent qualifications.

This accessible entry point sets Jet2FlightPath apart from many traditional pilot training schemes, fostering greater diversity and social mobility within the aviation sector.

Successful applicants will embark on an 18-month, fully funded Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) training course, delivered in partnership with leading training providers Skyborne Airline Academy, Leading Edge, and FTE Jerez.

Training will take place in the UK, Spain, or the United States, with courses commencing later this year. Upon completion, trainees will receive Type Rating training on either Airbus or Boeing aircraft, paving the way for a career as a Jet2 pilot.

Immersive Training Experience

Beyond technical flight training, Jet2FlightPath offers a unique, immersive experience that integrates trainees into the heart of Jet2 and Jet2holidays’ operations. Participants will gain exposure to customer-facing roles, including Cabin Crew and Ground Operations, providing a comprehensive understanding of the airline’s award-winning culture.

This holistic approach ensures that future pilots embody the qualities that have earned Jet2 its status as a Which? Recommended Provider for a decade.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2 and Jet2holidays, hailed the programme as a landmark achievement:

“The launch of this brand-new and fully funded pilot training programme is momentous news for Jet2 and for aspiring pilots.

“We know that the cost of training is an obstacle to many people who dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot, so we are very proud to announce this groundbreaking programme which will help us make that dream become a reality for many, including those who may have thought that the opportunity was beyond their means.”

A Commitment to Growth and Diversity

Jet2, which currently employs over 1,800 pilots, plans to train 60 candidates in the first year of Jet2FlightPath, with ambitions to expand the programme in future years as the airline continues to grow.

By removing financial barriers and broadening access, the initiative is expected to attract a diverse pool of talent, reflecting the airline’s commitment to inclusivity.

Heapy added: “By opening this incredible opportunity up to so many people from so many backgrounds, we expect the programme to be extremely popular, so we look forward to receiving applications and helping many wonderful flying careers take off.”
