Met Office yellow weather warning for icy conditions across Northern Ireland

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for ice from 5pm this evening, Tuesday 4 January, to 9am tomorrow, Wednesday 5 January.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said:

“Showers this evening and overnight will leave wet surfaces leading to icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements. In addition the showers will fall as snow on high ground with 1 to 3cm settling above about 200m.”

The Police Service of Northern Ireland also urged the public to avoid all unnecessary travel:

Driving conditions are hazardous on many routes this evening due to snow and freezing temperatures. Please avoid all unnecessary travel if possible. If you must venture out, please reduce your speed and drive to suit the conditions.”
