Funeral details announced for hit-and-run victim John Corr




Details have been announced for the funeral of well-known Ballymena man, John Corr, who was the victim of a hit-and-run collision which occurred in the town on Sunday evening (28 August).


Mr Corr is understood to have been walking home on the Cushendall Road when he was hit by a vehicle, believed to be a silver coloured BMW. The driver and passenger of the vehicle stopped at the scene before making off.


Police issued a statement on Monday morning (29 August). Detective Inspector Finlay said:


"Officers attended the scene of the collision, which was reported on Sunday, 28th August at around 10.20pm.



"At this stage, we believe a male, called John Corr, aged 57, was walking along the road when there was a collision with a car. A male and female, who we believe were occupants of the car, then stopped before making off after realising the male was seriously injured.”


Mr Corr sadly passed away at the scene.


An obituary posted this evening by W.J. O’Donnell & Sons Funeral Directors states:


“Corr, 34 Dunclug Park, Ballymena, 28th August 2022 (suddenly) John RIP, beloved son of Vera and the late Aaron, much loved brother of Rory and loving brother in law of Michelle.


“John’s remains are reposing in O’Donnell’s Funeral Home, 41 – 43 Mount Street, Ballymena. Visitors are welcome to call and pay their respects on Wednesday 31st August between 6pm -8pm.


“Requiem Mass on Thursday 1st September in All Saint’s Church Ballymena at 10am followed by burial immediately afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery Crebilly.


“Deeply regretted by his sorrowing mother, brother, sister-in-law, nephews Rory and Oisín and all the family circle. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his soul.”
