Fun for all as new look People’s Park play area now open

A major refurbishment of the play area at People’s Park in Ballymena is now complete, meaning families are welcome to enjoy some outdoors fun, while adhering to the public health guidelines to prevent Covid-19 transmission.

Brighter days are on their way, and it is hoped the park’s new, fully inclusive play equipment will be a welcome addition to spring and summer outings.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is encouraging anyone who visits the park to follow the Public Health Agency advice around staying in family or social bubbles, and observing good hand and respiratory hygiene while using the facility.

Mayor, Councillor Peter Johnston, welcomed the completion of the project.

“The People’s Park play area has been undergoing an impressive refurbishment since October 2020 and it is fantastic to have this facility open again for local people and visitors to enjoy as we start thinking of spring and summer.

“The People’s Park is exactly that - a place for people. From the very young to the not so young, the park has continued to play an important part in daily activity throughout 2020 and the opening of this fully inclusive play park is a fantastic addition to the town.

“As we continue to follow Covid-19 restrictions, this facility will provide local people with a much needed opportunity for outdoor exercise and play, and will be a fantastic place for people to enjoy fresh air and meet with friends when restrictions allow.

“The play area provides for children of all abilities and following consultation, the park has been developed to ensure not just accessibility but also a strong emphasis on inclusivity providing opportunities for children of all abilities to play together.”
