The route between Belfast International Airport and Faro Airport in Portugal has resumed following on from the announcement of the Green list by the Northern Ireland Executive.

Flights will operate four times a week to begin with, increasing then to 16 times a week in the summer peak. Flights will be operated by easyjet with Jet2 joining later in June.

Graham Keddie, Managing Director, Belfast International Airport:

“We were delighted that Portugal was included on the NI Executive’s green travel list for international travel and it was wonderful to watch local holidaymakers heading off today for a well-earned summer break.

“We look forward to welcoming back more passengers safely and can reassure them that we and our airlines are well prepared with a range of social distancing, hygiene and testing provisions in place throughout the airport.

“As we move towards full reopening, we would ask that passengers are patient and familiarise themselves with the rules around air travel. Queues will be expected as we need to maintain social distancing and we would ask that passengers arrive two hours prior to departure. Anyone with Covid-19 symptoms must stay away from the airport and passengers must adhere to all the public health guidelines as we start to increase our flights and passenger flow.”

Ali Gayward, easyJet UK Country Manager commented:

“We are delighted to be getting back to what we do best today and flying our customers from Belfast on international leisure trips once again either for a break or to reunite with loved ones after many months apart. We know the pent up demand is there – we see it every time that restrictions are eased and so to cater for it we have put an extra 100,000 seats on sale from the UK, including from Belfast, to Green list destinations to help our customers take to the skies once again.

“We are absolutely committed to a safe restart and are confident this can happen while protecting both the health system and the success of the vaccine programme and we have industry-leading flexible policies so customers can book with confidence and change their plans if they need to. We look forward to welcoming our customers back onboard in the coming days, weeks and months.”
