Emergency Services attend scene of tragic death of woman at Giant’s Causeway




Emergency Services were tasked to the Giant’s Causeway on Friday evening, August 12, after it was reported that a woman was seen falling off a cliff on the North Antrim Coast.


The alarm was raised shortly after 8pm yesterday evening.



HM Coastguard worked with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue teams, Portrush RNLI Lifeboat, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland who were all sent in response.


Rescue Helicopter 199 from Prestwick also attended for a period.



As the night went on, PSNI Air Support could be seen hovering over the area until around 11.45pm, providing light while Coastguard rope rescue teams worked on the ground below.


A police spokesperson said:


“Police attended the scene of a sudden death of a woman at the Giant’s Causeway in Coleraine yesterday evening, Friday 12 August. Investigations are ongoing.”
