easyJet passengers will be able to access high-speed internet during flights for the first time from 2027, following a new partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network.

The airline plans to introduce Wi-Fi across its Airbus A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft, allowing customers to stream films, browse the internet, play online games and stay in touch while travelling.

The rollout is scheduled to begin during the first half of 2027, with installation across the specified aircraft types expected to be completed by early 2028.

What passengers can expect onboard

The introduction of Starlink will mark a significant change for easyJet customers, who currently do not have access to onboard internet connectivity.

Passengers will be able to use their own smartphones, tablets and laptops to access online services during flights, including entertainment, messaging and work-related activities.

The airline says the technology will also make it easier for travellers to access useful information during their journey, including:

• Checking flight information through the easyJet app or website.

• Looking up weather forecasts at their destination.

• Researching local transport connections and tourist attractions.

• Streaming entertainment, browsing websites and playing online games.

The new connectivity could also eventually allow passengers to order food and drinks directly from their seats, although easyJet has not confirmed when this feature might become available.

Rollout planned across easyJet aircraft

Starlink connectivity will be introduced progressively across easyJet’s A320, A320neo and A321neo fleet, rather than becoming available on every aircraft immediately.

The airline expects the rollout to be completed by early 2028, meaning passengers may encounter different levels of onboard connectivity during the installation period.

easyJet has not yet confirmed whether passengers will be charged to use the service or whether different access packages will be available.

The development will be relevant to passengers travelling with easyJet from Northern Ireland, although the airline has not announced when Starlink-equipped aircraft will begin operating on individual routes.

Airline says connectivity will offer greater choice

easyJet chief executive Kenton Jarvis said the partnership reflects changing expectations among both holidaymakers and business travellers.

“In an increasingly digital world, staying connected matters more than ever to many of our customers, whether that’s holidaymakers looking to unwind with inflight entertainment, or our business customers keeping up to speed with what’s happening on the ground.

“Innovation is in easyJet’s DNA and partnering with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed internet connectivity onboard for the first time will not only further enhance the experience we provide millions of customers, but means we are offering more of the options both business and leisure travellers want when they choose who they fly with.

“Giving customers the opportunity to get online in the air will mean even greater choice and convenience when you fly with easyJet. Ultimately, it’s yet another way we’re making travel easy.”

Starlink promises connectivity throughout flights

Starlink operates a network of satellites designed to provide high-speed internet access, including to aircraft travelling at altitude.

Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, said:

“We’re proud to bring Starlink onboard easyJet and transform the way their customers stay connected throughout their travels. Fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing means people can work, stream, or stay in touch without interruption.”

easyJet carries around 100 million passengers annually, and the introduction of onboard internet represents a substantial expansion of the services available during its flights.

For travellers, the main change will be the ability to remain connected rather than having to wait until landing to access online services. However, passengers will need to wait for further details on pricing and aircraft availability as the airline prepares for the first installations in 2027.
