Dobbies’ Lisburn and Antrim stores are ushering in the festive season with the arrival of their highly anticipated annual delivery of poinsettias.
The popular garden centre chain is expecting strong customer demand this year, particularly for the traditional red variety, as nostalgic Christmas décor trends continue to dominate.
The delivery marks the start of a blooming festive period for both stores, with red poinsettias once again taking centre stage.
The classic Christmas plant is expected to be the season’s standout choice as households embrace traditional styling, vintage-inspired colour schemes, and timeless decorations.
Alongside the beloved red variety, Dobbies is also offering white and pink poinsettias for customers keen to refresh their festive palette or create striking indoor displays.

Dobbies’ Senior Plant Buyer, Claire Bishop, said:
“Poinsettias have been a Christmas favourite for generations, bringing colour and warmth to homes during the festive season, so we’re excited to welcome them to our Antrim and Lisburn store to kick off the celebrations.
“Our customers loved the pink and white varieties last year, so we’ve brought these back for 2025, along with the ever-popular red – which we’re expecting to be the standout choice this Christmas for creating a show-stopping centrepiece as more people embrace a traditional festive look.
“Whether used for decorating or gifting, poinsettias, also known as Euphorbia pulcherrima, remain a simple but effective way to grow festive cheer and will instantly bring that classic Christmas feel to any room.”
Top tips for keeping your poinsettia thriving

As shoppers pick up their festive houseplants, Claire has also shared expert advice on helping poinsettias flourish throughout the season:
1. Choose a bright spot
Poinsettias require plenty of indirect light. They thrive in bright spaces but should be kept out of direct sunlight, which can scorch their vibrant bracts—the red leaf-like structures surrounding tiny yellow flowers known as cyathia.
As a tropical plant, poinsettias also love warmth, so they should be placed away from draughty windows or cold areas to prevent premature leaf drop.
2. Water sparingly
Watering solely when the soil feels dry to the touch is key. Requirements vary depending on room temperature, so the plant may need watering every few days or only weekly. Overwatering should be avoided as poinsettias dislike sitting in waterlogged soil.
3. Feed monthly
A monthly feed using a liquid plant fertiliser will help keep poinsettias healthy and vibrant well into the new year.
