The Diamond, Ahoghill
Disruption is expected as the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) commences much-needed resurfacing work in Ahoghill.
Part of an overall footpath and carriageway improvement scheme that commenced at the beginning of May, the works extend for a distance of approximately 1km on the A42 Portglenone Road / Ballymena Road including The Diamond area of the village.
Road Closure Info
Following the completion of preparatory works and footpaths improvements, resurfacing of the carriageway and footways is set to begin on Monday morning, 24th July at 7:30am and are expected to continue for around four weeks.
To facilitate the works a road closure will operate daily on the A42 (Portglenone Road / Ballymena Road) from the junction of Killane Road (Maxol / Graham's Spar) to the junction of the Glebe Road - including Main Street and The Diamond area.

It is understood the road closure will be in place for almost three weeks up until 6:00pm on Saturday 12 August. The overall scheme is expected to be completed by Friday 18 August 2023 subject to favourable weather conditions.
Diversion / Alternative Route
The DfI advise that the diversion will cause a delay of around 5 minutes. The diversion will operate via:
Portglenone to Ballymena: Largy Road - Whitesides Road - Cromkill Road - Tullygarley / Sourhill Road - A42 Galgorm Road.
Ballymena to Portglenone: Fenaghy Road - Ballymena Road - Dreen Road - Ballyconnelly Road - Hiltonstown Road.
Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.
A DfI spokesperson commented:
"The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative route which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the works."
Public Transport
Ulsterbus services will be impacted for the duration of the road closure.
Translink has confirmed that all 127 services operating to and from Ballymena to Magherafelt / Portglenone will be unable to serve Ahoghill.
A supplementary service will operate from Ahoghill Car Park to Ballymena and back via Cullybackey to assist most services.
