First Cullybackey Cub Leaders Lorraine McDowell, Billy Montgomery, John Evans, and their little Squirrel helper, Emily McDowell, were presented with certificates by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor Peter Johnston.
The presentation by the Mayor recognised the valuable and much appreciated contribution of the leaders who provided the cubs with some much needed activities during the country’s initial lockdown response to COVID-19.
The hardworking leaders organised a tent loan scheme where cubs (and their families) could borrow tents from the group for back garden sleepovers during lock down.
As key workers they were able to drop off and collect kits when out and about over the last months. The project proved to be a big hit with local families and was extremely successful, helping to keep the groups scouting interest going, especially as they were unable to camp this year.
The project also enabled the whole family to participate in the fun and adventure during what was for most a very challenging time.
In addition, the group took part in a virtual camp and introduced daily virtual badgework during the summer period.
Well some to all involved!
