Murdered: 61-year-old Sidi Djalo

Police have named the man who died following an incident at a home in Dungannon as 61-year-old Sidi Djalo.

His family has asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss following the incident on Lisnahull Road on Saturday 29 August, in which his wife and eight-year-old daughter were also injured.

A 16-year-old male has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and threats to kill in connection with the investigation.

Family’s request for privacy

Detective Chief Inspector Robinson, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team, said:

“The thoughts of the Police Service are with Sidi’s family at this difficult time.

“They have also asked for privacy as they try to come to terms with their loss.”

Police previously confirmed that specialist officers were supporting the wider family circle.

Wife and daughter injured

Officers were called to the house shortly after 10.55am on Saturday following a report from a member of the public of an ongoing disturbance.

They found Mr Djalo’s body, his 48-year-old wife, who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and their severely injured eight-year-old daughter.

His wife was subsequently released from hospital. In an earlier update, police said the girl’s condition was stable, having previously been described as critical.

Mid Ulster District Commander Superintendent Peter Stevenson said:

“Our officers immediately commenced first aid on the woman and girl – and I am in no doubt that their quick-thinking actions gave the young girl a fighting chance of survival.”

Teenager charged

Detectives subsequently charged a 16-year-old male with murder, two counts of attempted murder and threats to kill.

The PSNI’s charging statement said he was due to appear before Omagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 1 September. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Police have previously said they do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation.
