A special charity dinner hosted by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim has celebrated the life and legacy of Alderman Beth Adger MBE, who passed away while serving in office.

The event, held on Friday 16 May, brought together over 260 guests including family, friends and local dignitaries, in tribute to a woman remembered for her unwavering dedication to public service.

Alderman Adger, a former Mayor of the Borough, was lauded for her lifetime commitment to helping others, her approachable manner, and her remarkable service to the community.

The evening not only served as a heartfelt memorial but also as a fundraiser for two charities close to Alderman Adger’s heart – Air Ambulance Northern Ireland and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – which she had championed during her Mayoral term. Attendees contributed generously, helping to raise vital funds for both causes.

Speaking at the event, current Mayor Alderman William McCaughey paid tribute to his predecessor’s character and legacy:

“In our Council chambers, community events, and throughout our Borough, Beth was known for her warmth, approachability, and genuine concern for others. She led with grace, humility and distinction.”

He continued:

“This event honours Beth’s philanthropic spirit by raising funds for the two charities she chose to support during her Mayoral year – Air Ambulance Northern Ireland and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

“These organisations reflected Beth’s understanding of the critical importance of emergency medical services and her compassion for those living with chronic conditions.

“By supporting these causes, we continue Beth’s legacy of care and commitment.”

The Mayor concluded with a heartfelt acknowledgment of Alderman Adger’s lasting impact on the Borough:

“Beth’s passing leaves a void that will be felt throughout our Borough for years to come. But her spirit lives on in the community she helped build, in the policies she championed, in the children she nurtured and in the countless lives she touched.

“Thank you to everyone who attended, supported the event and contributed to these causes.”

Alderman Beth Adger MBE served her community with distinction and will be remembered as a devoted public servant whose work improved the lives of many across Mid and East Antrim. Her commitment to public life and charitable work continues through the support of the causes she held dear.
