BARRY’S SET TO OPEN | New leaseholder of Barry’s Portrush confirmed

It has been the hope of many, both young and old, that the closure of Barry’s Amusements, Portrush, would not be the end of the fun after generations of family entertainment.

A video shared on social media on Thursday (below), showed the lights on in the venue, with both Big Dipper and Waltzer amusements with lights flashing. Hundreds commented on the post published on Love Ballymena, with a mixture of both excitement and disbelief.

We now can confirm that the Curry family, owners of Curry’s Fun Park in Salthill, Galway, are the new leaseholders of the Barry’s complex.

A spokesperson for Curry’s also confirmed that opening dates will be announced next week.

The site of the former Barry’s Amusements complex went on the commercial market to let in September 2021, being marketed as a ‘unique leisure and entertainment opportunity’.

Barry’s was opened over 90 years ago in 1926 by the Trufelli family and was widely recognised as Northern Ireland’s largest and longest-running amusement park.

On September 6 last year, the Trufelli family confirmed that the Barry’s property had been sold and the business was set to close.

We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
