Ballymena man charged after Glenarm Court incident

Police have charged a 42-year-old man in connection with an incident in the Glenarm Court area of Ballymena that left a man in his 50s in hospital.


Officers were called to the scene at around 6.40pm on Friday, 8 August. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which police said are “not believed to be life-threatening”.



It has been reported that the man was shot in the face by a crossbow.


The suspect has now been charged with a number of offences, including possession of an offensive weapon and wounding with intent. He is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 11 August.



In a statement released following the incident on Friday evening, a PSNI spokesperson said:


“Police received a report of an incident in the Glenarm Court area of Ballymena at 6.40pm this evening, Friday, 8th August. One man aged in his 50s has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences. There is no ongoing risk to the public, however officers remain at the scene at this time.”



Police have confirmed that, as is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
