80-year-old Robert Russell Bamber (Roy)



An 80-year-old man has sadly died following a three-vehicle road traffic collision in Ballymena, police have confirmed.


He was Robert Russell Bamber, known to family and friends as Roy, from the Ballymena area.


The collision occurred shortly after 7.05pm on Wednesday, 10th September, at the junction of Moorfields Road and Tully Road.



Inspector Cherith Adair of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said:


“Shortly after 7.05pm on Wednesday, 10th September it was reported a blue Toyota Aygo, a white Citroën Berlingo and a white Audi A3 were involved in a collision at the Moorfields Road, Ballymena at the junction of the Tully Road.


“Mr Bamber, who was driving the Toyota Aygo, was taken to hospital for his injuries, but sadly passed away on Friday, 19th September.”



Police enquiries are continuing, and detectives are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1396 10/09/25.


Funeral details have also been released. A notice from James Henry Funeral Services confirmed:


“Bamber Robert Russell (Roy) 19th September 2025, suddenly, as the result of an accident, late of 40 Church Road, Gracehill. Much loved husband of Sandra, loving father of Claire, father-in-law of Stacy, devoted grandfather of Chloe (husband Aaron), Lewis, Theo and great grandfather of Harrison.



“Funeral arrangements later. Family and friends are welcome to call at 40 Church Road, Gracehill on Monday 22nd September from 3pm to 8pm. Family flowers only please. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, daughter and family circle.


“‘Gone from our home but not from our hearts’.”
