Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council will support Shine a Light Campaign for World Neurofibromatosis Awareness Day on Monday 17 May, by lighting up Antrim Civic Centre, Ballyclare Town Hall and Mossley Mill blue.
Neurofibromatosis occurs all over the world and affects men and women equally. There are two main types of Neurofibromatosis: NF1 and NF2. There are also two rarer variants:
Schwannomatosis & Legius Syndrome this translates to mean ‘Nerve Tumour Increase’.
It is important to raise awareness of this condition and whilst the world is changing, we must make sure Neurofibromatosis patients worldwide and specifically for the 26,500 people that are affected by NF in the UK are recognised and their life should not be in lockdown.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Jim Montgomery said:
“It is essential that these less known diseases are highlighted and supported. The past year has been difficult for everyone particularly the isolation felt by many, especially those living with a disease. I am pleased the Council are supporting this campaign”.
