“Very concerning development” – Detectives conduct second visit to Council HQ

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Criminal Investigation Branch, have made a second visit to The Braid as part of an ongoing investigation - headquarters for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

The scandal-rocked local authority made the headlines in October when Detectives first visited the facility, daubed ‘the raid at The Braid’, and removed a number of files and computer equipment.

A police spokesperson said:

“Detectives from Criminal Investigation Branch visited a building at Bridge Street in Ballymena on the evening of April 5, as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected offences of misconduct in public office and under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

"As this is an ongoing investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

A Council spokesperson told Love Ballymena:

“Police were facilitated onto the premises as they sought further information as a follow up from their initial search enquiries.”

Reacting to the continuing police investigation and second visit, Alliance Party Councillor for Larne Lough, Danny Donnelly, commented:

“A very concerning development for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

“The public deserve to have confidence that the council is being run in an open and fair manner.”
