A local church community has been praised by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, after distributing a phenomenal 10,000 meals to elderly and vulnerable members of the public throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Through their Doorstep Dinners project, Carrickfergus Vineyard Church have built up a team of cooks, drivers, befrienders, administrators, staff and volunteers, to help bring healthy food to those in need.
They have also received support from local businesses, as well as Carrickfergus Foodbank and Carrickfergus YMCA.
Mayor Johnston told Elected Members at this month’s meeting of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council:
“The efforts of all those involved in supporting the most vulnerable in our Borough throughout the pandemic are nothing short of inspirational.
“I had the great privilege to meet Carrickfergus Vineyard Church when they celebrated distributing 10,000 nutritious meals recently.
“That is simply amazing, and is a clear demonstration of community in action. As we move through the next phase of the COVID-19 crisis, the services and support provided by Carrickfergus Vineyard Church will still be required by many people, so I congratulate all those involved in helping make that possible.”
