A flood of tributes have been paid online to 17-year-old Lewis McKee, after the young man lost his life in a single vehicle road traffic collision on the Carndonaghy Road, Cullybackey, on Friday night, October 21.
Police officers received a report of the tragic incident shortly before 11.40pm, and responded along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS).
Detective Sergeant Harrison commented:
"A 17 year old boy was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries.
"Two other young people, a teenage boy and girl, who were also in the vehicle at the time, sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage.
"A 17 year old boy, arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, has since been released on police bail to allow for further police enquiries."
Friends left shocked and devastated by the death of the Ahoghill teen shared:
"A good friend taken well to soon,I can’t believe your gone everyone will be missing you forever."
"Cherishing these memories always. You were always there for me in a heartbreak, constantly joking around with me, I’ll miss you forever. Thank you for being the greatest friend a girl could ask for. RIP."
One simply said:
"Fairwell bro. Fly high."
TUV Alderman Stewart McDonald commented on the tragic news saying:
“I was saddened to learn of the death of 17 year old Lewis McKee who I knew following an accident on Cardonaghy Road on Friday night.
"My prayers are with his family and indeed the other two teenagers who were injured in the accident and are still being treated in hospital.
“I wish the PSNI well in their investigations into the circumstances of what took place and would urge anyone who can assist the authorities to come forward.”
A notice by Logan's Funeral Home states:
"McKEE 22nd October, 2022, suddenly as the result of a road traffic accident, Lewis David John, 72 Brookfield Gardens, Ahoghill, much loved son of Rhonda and David, stepson of Albert, precious brother of Stacey, Kirsty and Jay, loving grandson of Pearl Fleming and Mervyn McAloanan, step grandson of Harold, darling nephew of Alison and Ronnie Taylor, Tommy and Claire McAloanan, Bene and Sid Dickson.
"Funeral arrangements later.
"Deeply regretted by his family and many friends."
The PSNI Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage or any other information to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 2165 of 21/10/22.
