Coca-Cola Ireland has launched its 2025 Designated Driver campaign, celebrating an impressive 17 years of encouraging responsible choices and supporting the hospitality sector during the festive period.

The initiative, which launched yesterday on 1 December, once again offers two complimentary Coca-Cola soft drinks — including Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Coca-Cola Original Taste — to anyone acting as the designated driver at participating venues across the island of Ireland.

The long-running campaign continues to recognise the “unsung heroes of the night” who ensure their loved ones get home safely while still enjoying the festive atmosphere.

This year’s milestone comes at a time of significant change within the Irish hospitality landscape.

Although the need for human connection remains strong, the number of pubs in Ireland has fallen dramatically, with one in four closing over the past two decades. Against this backdrop, Coca-Cola says its commitment to supporting local pubs, hotels and restaurants is stronger than ever.

Howard Hastings, Chairman at Hastings Hotels, praised the continued partnership, saying:

“The hotel and pub trade is a gathering place at this time of the year. The Designated Driver campaign for the last 17 years has not just been about road safety, it’s also about inclusivity. It ensures that designated drivers – the unsung heroes of the night – don’t feel like they’re missing out because they’re choosing to be responsible.

“When we offer them that free Coca-Cola, it’s a small gesture, but it speaks volumes. And for me, that’s what being a good hotelier is all about. It’s a fantastic partnership and we are proud to be stronger than ever after 17 years.”

Gavin Gillespie, Marketing Director of Coca-Cola Ireland, added:

“This Christmas is truly special as we celebrate almost two decades of our Designated Driver campaign here in Northern Ireland. It’s a powerful testament to our enduring commitment to promoting safety and responsible enjoyment, and we encourage everyone to make use of the complimentary Coca-Cola options when they’re out socialising.”

Designated drivers can use the Coca-Cola App to find participating venues and access further details on how to become a “Coca-Cola Zero Hero” this Christmas.

Alongside the Designated Driver initiative, Coca-Cola is also rolling out its ‘every pack purchase wins’ festive promotion.

Shoppers who purchase a Coca-Cola Zero Sugar or Coca-Cola Original Taste pack can scan the on-pack QR code, upload their receipt and instantly win from a selection of Christmas gifts, including touchscreen gloves, festive socks, scarves, baubles and cinema ticket vouchers.

The promotion is open to adults aged 18+ in Northern Ireland and runs until 22 December 2025, with full details available on the Coca-Cola App.

Coca-Cola Ireland continues to champion sustainability through its World Without Waste ambitions. Across Ireland, the company’s full portfolio (excluding cap and label) is now made from 100% recycled plastic, with a global mission to collect and recycle one bottle or can for each one sold by 2030.
